I am spending many hours on site with clients talking about their wellbeing.
Since returning to the workplace from COVID many staff are having different issues.
Recently these have included:
- Sleep issues
- Stress
- Short tempered
- Being ill more often
- Drinking too much
- Not communicating with work colleagues
- Vaping issues
As you maybe aware I carry out monthly site visits to my construction clients and I ask them in advance what subject they would like me to cover and talk about during the visit.
Stress/sleep seems to be the most common ones that are an issue.
- Stress -
On a recent training session I went around the table and asked the staff what are their stressors and the answers were interesting. They said driving, clients arguing about work that had/not been done and sleep.
So for the driving I can suggest regular breaks and stops on their journey – planning their journey, so finding out if there are any road closures etc. take it in turns to drive.
Clients saying work has not been done – I have suggested taking a picture of the work as this confirms it has been done and the date/time.
- Sleep -
A few of the staff said they watch tv in bed and also go onto the their phones late at night. So a suggestion is to have some quiet time 2 hours before bed. They are going to try this and report back next month. I also suggest lavender essential oil on the wrist and pillow an hour before bed. This quietens the mind as well as the body and allows the mind to be calm ready for sleep. Again they are going to try this and let me know next month.
I also suggest to clients to have some wellbeing tips on a noticeboard or send an email and also having a suggestions box so that staff can freely ask for help or document what is worrying them.
